EPC Jargon

EPC’s are pretty straightforward really. There is a lot of jargon which makes it all seem a bit confusing. Cheshire Energy Assessors have tried to take the mystery out of EPC’s by setting out below the meanings of some of the terms that you might come across:

EPC

Energy Performance Certificate

Domestic EPC

EPC on a residential property such as a house or flat

Commercial EPC

EPC on a commercial property such as a shop, industrial unit or office

HIP

Home Information Pack.  These were abolished in 2010 although the need for an EPC remains.

DEA

Domestic Energy Assessor – somebody who provides domestic EPC’s

NDEA

Commercial Energy Assessor – somebody who provides commercial EPC’s

Diploma in Domestic Energy Assessessment – the necessary qualification for anyone wanting to provide domestic EPC’s. Cheshire Energy Assessors have this

NCM

National Calculation Methodology – these standards set out how the energy efficiency of the building is calculated

Accreditation

A high quality accreditation and training body. Cheshire Energy Assessors are accredited by Stroma to provide domestic and commercial EPC’s
